I often mention in my blog posts that the best time to photograph a newborn is when they are two weeks old. There are many reasons for this but the main one is that babies are more sleepy and easily posed during this time period. As they get older, they become more alert and are more difficult to pose. They also may start developing colic or baby “acne”. Most people do not realize newborn sessions are done so early, so I like to mention it often. 🙂 That being said….sometimes the ‘rules’ can be broken. Every baby is different and we can get beautiful portraits with older babies as well. When babies are born prematurely we can not only push that two-week window but we can often still get those womb-like newborn poses. Being a preemie photographer requires a little more patience but it can be done! This was the case with sweet Keira who I got to meet when she was 24 days old. She arrived a month early and I was able to squeeze in her parents at the last-minute. She did amazingly well for her newborn portrait session here in Orlando. We picked out some pretty pinks and greys for her session (a very popular combo for baby girl nurseries this year, by the way).
I think this one is my favorite from her session. 🙂
A beautiful family of 3!
